Maureen Denise McCormick, the only daughter of Richard McCormick, and Irene McCormick, was born in Woodland Hills California on 5 August 1956. Her father was a school teacher and her mom was an at-home mom. There are three brothers older than her: Michael Dennis and Kevin. Beginning at a very early age McCormick loved to sing and dance, and she would frequently put on puppet shows for the neighborhood children. When she won the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley contest when she was 6 an old Pat Domigan called from Jack Wormser Agency to see if McCormick wanted to get involved in the industry of entertainment. McCormick was offered her first significant job in 1964 when she starred in a television commercial for Mattels latest doll, Baby Pattaburp. The following year she appeared in another commercial for Mattels Chatty Cathy doll and was soon cast in the play the play Wind It up and It is Broken on stage at La Jolla Playhouse. The Brady Bunch McCormick's audition was in the company of over 1200 other kids who auditioned for the role of the oldest towheaded girl in The Brady Bunch. The sitcom starred Florence Henderson and Robert Reed, newlyweds who had a blended-family. The show ran for five seasons. McCormick said in her book from 2008 Heres the Story : Surviving Marcia Brady & Finding My True Voice that she nearly losing her virginity in the fifth season to Barry Williams, her co-star as well as her on-screen brother. He was 19. She was 16. The incident could have occurred, she told me, but the timing was never right for us.
